Chapter 5: Azure Integration¶
Azure ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN, and Office 365 Optimization
Chapter Overview¶
This chapter provides comprehensive implementation procedures for Azure connectivity using ExpressRoute for Microsoft peering (Office 365) and Azure Virtual WAN for SD-WAN integration. The deployment spans three Azure regions with multi-region failover capabilities.
Connectivity Model: ExpressRoute (dedicated circuits) + Virtual WAN (SD-WAN IPsec)
What You'll Learn¶
- Azure ExpressRoute circuit provisioning and configuration
- Azure Virtual WAN hub setup for SD-WAN integration
- Private Endpoint configuration for Azure services
- Multi-region failover architecture and testing
- Office 365 traffic optimization and routing
- Performance monitoring and troubleshooting
Azure Deployment Scope¶
ExpressRoute Circuits:
| Circuit | Location | Bandwidth | Use Case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Circuit 1 | Mumbai | 1 Gbps | India region O365 + Azure services |
| Circuit 2 | London | 1 Gbps | EMEA region O365 + Azure services |
| Circuit 3 | Virginia | 1 Gbps | Americas region O365 + Azure services |
Virtual WAN Hubs:
- India Central: Primary hub for APAC sites (9 branches)
- West Europe: Primary hub for EMEA sites (2 branches)
- East US: Primary hub for Americas sites (3 branches)
Site Connectivity:
- Total Sites: 19 SD-WAN sites (6 hubs + 13 branches)
- Connection Type: IPsec VPN to Virtual WAN hubs
- Routing: BGP-based with AS path prepending for preferred paths
